At the 11th Session of the Conference of States Parties to UNCAC (COSP11) in Doha, Qatar, The Center participated in critical discussions on political party financing, one of the most persistent threats to good governance in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, undisclosed political financing fuels a cycle where financial sponsors are repaid with contracts and influence, harming both governance and development.
To break this cycle, we’ve urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement these actionable pillars:
1. Digital Transparency and Real-time Disclosure
2. Bolstering Regulatory Enforcement and Auditing Capacity: A Special Electoral Finance Monitoring Unit (SEFMU) and active collaboration with EFCC, ICPC, and FIRS
3. Legislative and Policy Advocacy: Harmonizing donation limits to curb undue influence.
Transparent political financing is the bedrock of public integrity. At the Center, we are committed to ensuring these global standards are enforced at home, so governance serves citizens and not personal interests.
