Local Government Accountability Framework (LGAF) Capacity-Building Workshop Across the 36 states of Nigeria.

As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency at the grassroots, the Center for Fiscal Transparency & Public Integrity (CeFTPI) has commenced the nationwide capacity-building workshops under the Local Government Accountability Framework (LGAF). This workshop is being coordinated by the Center under the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC), funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).

This capacity building workshop is designed to reach all 36 states of Nigeria, targeting Local Government officials, oversight institutions, civil society organizations, and other governance stakeholders. It aims to enhance the capacity of Local Government Areas (LGAs) to strengthen transparency, improve service delivery, and enhance citizen engagement in governance processes.

The Local Government Accountability Framework aims to:
1.Strengthen Local Government capacity in transparent budgeting, procurement, auditing, and service delivery.
2.Enhance collaboration among Local Governments, oversight bodies, and civil society to improve responsiveness and inclusiveness.
3.Promote a culture of integrity, rule of law, and anti-corruption within the lowest tier of government in Nigeria.
4.Ensure that public resources are managed effectively and deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

The capacity-building workshops will be conducted in phases across the country. Each state-level workshop brings together Local Government officials and representatives from key accountability and oversight agencies, including the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
